OHS for Multimedia Equipment

Multimedia Equipment is one of the most important factors of any library. It helps with the smooth operation of certain activities within a library. Multimedia equipment such as computer, projectors and televisions all require certain maintenance to keep the equipment in good working condition and also to protect its users. People operating these machines also need to keep in mind occupational health and safety issues to help keep the workplace safe for all users. Below, are some examples of occupational health and safety used for multimedia equipment which we must follow.
  • Do not overload power boards as electrical failure could occur
  • Broken appliances should be repaired by a professional
  • Make sure all multimedia products are in good working order
  • Make sure electrical cords aren't left on the floor so people won't trip over them
  • Have broken powerpoints fixed by a qualified electrician
  • Prevent heat up in multimedia machines such as computers. Make sure there is room for air to circulate
  • Make sure you read the safety instructions of the item
  • Turn equipment off before unplugging
  • Tape the cords to the floor or place a mat over cords to prevent people tripping
